The Swedish top pianist Jacob Karlzon has long placed himself among the greatest European jazz pianists. With a string of acclaimed releases under his own name on such prominent labels as ACT and Warner, Karlzon is one of the Scandinavian musicians to watch internationally.
Another European jazz pioneer is Danish sax star Benjamin Koppel. With more than 50 releases as a soloist and more than twenty years of collaborations with the biggest international jazz stars, such as Joe Lovano, Brian Blade and Phil Woods, Benjamin has been an epicentre of Scandinavian jazz as an art form since his debut at just 18 years old.
With a great mutual respect and musical admiration for each other, the two virtuoso musicians have worked sporadically, but too rarely together over the past almost 15 years. They share a great passion for the lyrical, the Nordic, the atmospheric. And their musical collaboration takes wing as together they delve into the infinite universe of sound, with their infectious melodic flair and curiosity.
“We have taken the works of 6 classical composers we love and stand on the shoulders of to artistically explore how we can be inspired to convey the humanity we believe music as an art form brings to the world. We fantasise and improvise freely within the framework of rigorous compositions, all of which have a significant place in music history and in our hearts”.
