Four world-class jazz musicians, each with a stellar career and a long list of prestigious collaborations, have joined forces to form THE ART OF THE QUARTET—a band that redefines the potential of the classic jazz quartet. Featuring Benjamin Koppel, Kevin Hays, Peter Erskine, and Scott Colley, this ensemble brings together an unparalleled level of artistry, innovation, and deep musical connection.
Between them, these musicians have worked with the very best in jazz history, yet this project allows them to explore new creative depths together. Each member contributes original compositions, drawing inspiration from sources as diverse as John Coltrane, Charles Ives, Hawaiian landscapes, and intricate odd-meter fusion. Their collective virtuosity and seamless interplay elevate their music beyond mere performance—each concert becomes an intimate dialogue between four masters of their craft.
This collaboration is rooted in strong musical and personal ties. Benjamin Koppel has previously recorded several albums with Scott Colley as part of his trio project with Brian Blade, and has also worked extensively with Peter Erskine, releasing their album OneTwoThreeFour in 2011. These longstanding connections make The Art of the Quartet not just a group, but a dynamic conversation among musicians who deeply understand and inspire one another.
Their debut at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, prompting demand for more concerts, extensive touring, and future recordings. This is more than just a collaboration—it’s a movement, a fresh take on the jazz quartet tradition that is destined to make a lasting impact.
